Jane Spivey Lassiter Respess was born and raised in Weldon, NC.  She graduated from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill in 1951 with a degree in Mathematics.  After college she spent many years in Baltimore and Richmond before becoming a homemaker and caring for her beloved children.  As her children grew she also became a Math teacher in local schools.

Jane was a lover of music, particularly classical and big band music.  She was a vocalist and as a lifelong member of Weldon United Methodist Church she sang in the youth and adult choirs.  She also sang for many events in the area; her sweet alto voice will be missed by those who heard her.

Jane loved to walk on the beach and collect seashells at her favorite beaches in Nags Head and Virginia Beach where she spent many vacations as a child. In her later years she would visit Topsail Island and Isle of Palms in the spring and summer and spent many happy hours watching the beach and spending time with family.

Jane was an eclectic reader and enjoyed puzzles and games with family and friends. She was a wonderful conversationalist and always delighted her companions with her wit and insight. Her humor was wicked and her laughter infectious.

As a UNC graduate, Jane was a lifelong Tar Heels fan, knowing more about Tar Heel basketball than most.  She was a member of the Carolina Bell Ringers. One of her favorite colors was Carolina Blue and every game was a big game.

Her family takes comfort in knowing that she has been reunited with her family and friends.

Services will be held at Weldon United Methodist Church Wednesday June 12.  Viewing will be at 12:30 and services will be at 1:30.  Interment will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery and fellowship at the Grace Episcopal Church Fellowship hall in Weldon.
