Elizabeth Banty Poythress, 77, died Tuesday July 2, 2013 at Carolina Rest Home.
Mrs. Poythress was born November 17, 1935 in Halifax County to the late Jesse and Gertrude Johnson Banty.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Poythress; brothers, Freeman, Thomas, and Rudolph Banty, and a sister Mable Godsey. Mrs. Poythress loved Dale Earnhardt, racing, and bingo.
Mrs. Poythress is survived by her sons, Dennis Lee Poythress and wife Shelby of Knightdale; and Anthony L. Poythress of Roanoke Rapids; her daughter Deborah P. Herring and husband Dwayne of Roanoke Rapids; one brother Jesse Banty, Jr. and wife Linda of Halifax; sister Louise Poythress of Gasburg, Va., and eight grandchildren, Nina,Taylor and Rob Poythress; Dylan Morris; Jamie, Kasey, Sara, and Tessa Herring.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 5, 2013 at 2:00 at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service with Billy Meinsen, Minister officiating. Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:30 prior to the service at the funeral home and all other times at 305 Robinson Dr., Roanoke Rapids.
