Etta Mae Patterson Alston

Etta Mae Patterson Alston, 74 of 3719 Hwy 158, Roanoke Rapids died Wednesday, June 05, 2013 at home.

She was born June 19, 1938 in Warren County to the late Elmus Reed Patterson and Annie Sue Robinson Patterson. 

She was a member of New Hope United Methodist where she sang in the choir.  She was a loving and giving person.  She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.  Mrs. Alston loved cooking, she was a member of the cooking club, loved working in the garden, going to flea markets, shopping and collecting dolls. She retired from the Halifax County Schools after 23 years.

Mrs. Alston is survived by her husband: William D. “Boo” Alston; her son: William B. Alston and his wife Margaret; her daughter: Norma A. Lyle and her husband Kevin all of Roanoke Rapids; Her sisters: Margaret Newton and her husband Harry of Hamlet, Lessie Remsburg of Norlina, Faye Paynter and her husband Earl of Wise, Jetty Paynter and her husband Ralph of Norlina and Edith Holmes of Garner; her grandchildren: William, Brianna and Allysa Lyle and Samuel Blake Alston; her step-grandchildren: Sarah and Cole Daughtry; her loving grand dog: Scooter Root; special caregiver: Ernestine Boone.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday at New Hope United Methodist Church with Rev. Sue Owens officiating.  Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 7:30 – 9:00 P.M. Friday, June 7, 2013 at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service and other times at her son’s home.
